Gbotemi spice is used in some of the more unusual ethnic foods of Africa. It is a special blend of spice/herb seeds, prepared in such a way as to make it taste unlike anything people from Western and European countries have ever experienced. Gbotemi spice makes a wonderful meat seasoning rub!

Gbotemi Spice Recipe-


(equal portions of the following)-

And you will also need-

  • ground ginger
  1. Mix all the above ingredients (except the ground ginger) together in a bowl. Place the mixture on an uncovered baking sheet and place in the oven; roast at 425 degrees Fahrenheit, for 30 to 45 minutes, or until dark brown and brittle.
  2. Grind the roasted mixture with a mortar and pestle until it is one consistent powder.
  3. Add ground ginger to taste, mix and blend together thoroughly.
  4. Your Gbotemi Spice is now ready for use. It will keep, stored in a cool, dry place, indefinitely.
