This Hearty Beef Stew Wilsonian recipe is a new addition to our All American Soups and Sandwiches page. It is a very unique take on an age-old stew, that will surely have you wondering how in the world did this get so good!

Hearty Beef Stew Wilsonian

There are lots of beef stews, but until you have tried this Hearty Beef Stew Wilsonian, you have not yet known how wonderful a beef stew can be. This is my own special recipe. Hearty Beef Stew Wilsonian is an outgrowth of my interaction with my Ghanaian wife’s cooking. She is, in her own right, an amazing cook. She has introduced me to spices and food preparations that I had not yet known. Combined with my American ideas about how to cook a stew with her Ghanaian concepts, this Wilson Hearty Beef Stew came to be. Enjoy!

Many Benefits of Almond Milk

Many Benefits of Almond Milk

Occasionally I like to post about healthy foods. This article on the many benefits of almond milk is a bit of a departure from our main focus on ethnic foods from cultures the world over. However, our readership has always commented on their appreciation for these types of informative posts, also.

Dairy milk is by far the most well known and preferred type of milk in most cultures around the planet. It is known and revered for its high content of several minerals and vitamins, as well as providing some protein. Almond milk, however, tops cow’s milk in lots of ways, including even more protein and extra nutrients not found in dairy milk.

Health benefits of drinking almond milk, which I will get into at length and in detail below, include, but are not limited to: improved vision, weight loss, strong bones and a strong, healthy heart. Further, almond milk is an excellent substitute to nursing mothers’ breast milk. It will also help in building strong muscles, lowering high blood pressure and maintaining ideal blood pressure, and keeping your kidney healthy and functioning at optimum level. Making Turkish Sand Coffee

Making Turkish Sand Coffee

Making Turkish sand coffee is very similar to making “ordinary” Turkish coffee.  Of course, “ordinary” Turkish coffee is not very ordinary at all. The big difference, and what has recently become a wildly popular method recently all throughout the West and Europe, is that making Turkish sand coffee involves using – you guessed it …

Sand!

Sand is heated to extremely hot temperatures in which to brew the coffee. The curators who proffer this method claim that the sand offers a more consistent, even heat than normal brewing in a pot directly over a flame.

Slavinken

Slavinken Dutch Netherlands

This recipe for Slavinken is taken from our Dutch Cuisine page. For more delicious dishes like this one from the Netherlands, click here.

Slavinken

Dutch Slavinken is an excellent comfort food, and very easy to make. Which is good for those of us who don’t live in that country. The Dutch love them, but rarely go to the trouble of preparing them at home, because they can buy them ready made at practically every butcher shop or grocery store.

This Dutch Slavinken recipe calls for frying them on the stovetop, but you can also barbecue them on your grille. They taste great with potato and vegetable side dishes. If you do grille them, try serving and eating them on hot dog buns with ketchup, mustard, and some chopped onions. Superb!

Grenadian Stuffed Breadfruit

Grenadian Stuffed Breadfruit

This Grenadian Stuffed Breadfruit recipe is taken from our Smallest Countries Worldwide Cuisines page. For more delicious recipes like this one, with huge palate appeal from tiny countries, click here.

Grenadian Stuffed Breadfruit

Grenadian Stuffed Breadfruit is a national specialty dish in this little country. Breadfruits (sometimes called “Jackfruits”) are huge, averaging about the same size as an American football. They can be eaten raw as fruits, but also can be stuffed – with many different kinds of foods, most often, in Grenada, some kind of meat – and cooked for a main course dish. This recipe calls for stuffing the breadfruit with meat, but, if you are vegetarian, feel free to substitute cooked beans, rice, soy-based foods, etc.

Nostalgia BSET300 Breakfast Station

Nostalgia BSET300 Breakfast Station

I don’t often do product reviews, but this Nostalgia BSET300 Breakfast Station, a 3-in-1 “Retro Series” cooking appliance is worthy of taking a bit of a tangent away from our main focus here. Of course, Ethnic Foods R Us is all about cooking recipes from ethnic cultures the world over. One of the “ethnic” cultures we cover is campfire and campsite cooking, which is very popular in the United States and Canada, as well as some European countries. Since that is the case, I felt it appropriate to present and review this handy little appliance.

Nostalgia BSET300 Breakfast Station

Now, don’t be misled – the Nostalgia BSET300 Breakfast Station is not specifically designed for camping trip cooking. It comes with a 3-prong electrical plug that requires a grounded electrical outlet that will provide at least 1500 watts of power. So it is primarily designed to be a convenient appliance in small home kitchens, or in mobile homes and RV’s with limited space. In those situations this little marvel can be a tremendous asset.

But if you are camping with a camper/trailer that has electrical power, or …

Health Benefits of Ginger Tea

Health Benefits of Ginger Tea

The health benefits of ginger tea are many. In fact, they are probably far more than you have imagined. Certainly, just the taste and “comfort” alone of a nice, hot cup of organic ginger tea is reason enough to enjoy a cup or three now and then. However, once you fully understand all the health benefits of ginger tea, you may want to drink it even more often.

This site is, of course, centered around and focused on providing recipes, information, and helpful resources for ethnic foods from cultures the world over. However, we do occasionally pick out some of the especially beneficial ingredients found in various ethnic cuisines and highlight them in a special post. Ginger is one such ingredient. Popular all over the planet, this marvelous root not only provides zing and zip to culinary creations, it is darn good for what ails you, too!

If you have a common cold in the winter? You can’t beat a hot cup of ginger tea for a cure. Ginger root contains extremely high levels of magnesium and other minerals, and the all-important Vitamin C. These qualities are what contribute to the long list of health benefits of ginger tea.

German Bierocks

German Bierocks

This German Bierocks recipe is taken from our German Cuisine page. It is the most recent addition to our lengthy and always growing list of dishes offered there. For more great German cuisine dishes like this German Bierocks recipe, click here.

Bierocks, also called “Runzas”, are considered by some to be originally from Russia. However, bierocks are such a national favorite in Germany today, and because German bierocks are so outstanding in flavor and texture, we are posting this recipe under German cuisine. This German recipe for bierocks calls for venison. You could substitute ground beef if you dislike “gamey” tasting meats. But venison bierocks are, in my opinion, superior.
